About us
Synopsys Optical Solutions, formerly Optical Research Associates (ORA), is one of the world’s leading developers of optical design and analysis tools -- CODE V® imaging design software and LightTools® illumination design software. The group is also an independent supplier of optical systems design services, with more than 5,000 completed projects in imaging, illumination and optical systems engineering. In May 2012, Synopsys acquired RSoft Design Group, expanding the company’s portfolio of optical design and analysis software products. With the RSoft™ products, Synopsys has augmented the CODE V and LightTools product lines to provide a full spectrum of photonic and optical design solutions. In February 2014, Synopsys acquired Brandenburg, maker of the LucidShape line of CAD software for the design of automotive forward, rear and signal lighting and reflectors, as well as for general lighting. In addition to design software, Brandenburg offers LucidDrive for night driving simulation that generates almost photorealistic lighting scenes in real time. Designers use it to quickly and accurately evaluate beam patterns of vehicle headlamps prior to expensive fabrication and testing. Most top-tier car companies and their lighting OEMs use Brandenburg products. New research by Beijing Institute of Technology (北京理工大学) proposes a method for designing an integral projection system, which includes optical design and digital preprocessing. By incorporating an integral projection imaging model and ray data, authors achieved a per-pixel mapping. Their design example, a projection optical system with a field of view of 80° and an F-number of 2, resulted in distortion-free, uniformly illuminated, and high-quality images. CODE V and LightTools played a pivotal role in this work. https://lnkd.in/dcTSgT9H

In a recent Synopsys Optical Solutions tech talk, Dr. Weimin Shi shed light on the importance of as-built system performance in optical design and manufacturing. He focused on unique approaches in CODE V and RSoft Photonic Device Tools for both conventional and emerging optical systems. The key takeaway was that getting the design right the first time is vital. This involves understanding potential fabrication errors, accurately modeling each error, and assessing its impact on as-built performance. By using Synopsys' suite of tools, designers can reduce sensitivity to manufacturing tolerances, balance performance and cost, and create high-performance, cost-effective optical systems. In light of recent advancements in optical technology, the development of metalenses is proving to be a significant milestone. These thin, flat surfaces can enhance the capabilities of traditional lenses across a multitude of applications. Despite the complexity of the design workflow, Synopsys provides design tools to streamline the process accurately and efficiently. Our recent article illustrates how to tackle the challenges in metalens design by integrating a ray-based automatic design add-on feature in CODE V with a wave-based inverse design tool—MetaOptic Designer. This combination allows for the design of an ultra-wide-angle metalens imaging system. Dive into the article to understand the calculation of meta-atom optical properties and the process of designing a metalens with CODE V. https://lnkd.in/ghEkSdZ6 #CODEV #MetaOpticDesigner #metalenses #metalens #designbrilliance
