Freshly graduated a couple days ago from the advanced photonic concept laboratory in Polytechnique Montreal, Dr. Jean-Sebastien Boisvert is a researcher in Photonics specialize in the femtosecond laser functionalization of materials aimed at new photonic device integration on a smartphone. Passionately involve in the Photonics community, he was part of the Montreal student chapter of Optica-SPIE for 7 years, part of the organizing committee for the Montreal Photonics Event (MPN) for 4 years and the Canadian Photonics Online Meeting for 2 years, where he is acting as Co-chair for the current year. His main research leads to a better understanding of the refractive index modification induced by femtosecond laser writing from which he was able to demonstrate an integrated spectrometer on
smartphones. Simultaneously, he also works on the development of a photosensitise ultra-stretchable polymers generating a new writing material featuring on demands tunability which opens the way to highly tunable photonic devices for lab-on-chips application.
