Michael Delay received the Ph.D. from the University of Washington in Physics (Elementary Particles). He transitioned to the field of Biophysics as postdoctoral fellow at UW and UCLA, and joined the faculty of the University of Calgary, Canada, in the Medical Physiology Department, researching use of optical methods in cell biology. A further transition was made to Axon Instruments, targeting cell electrophysiology and biological imaging, and later to TILL Photonics and INDEC BioSystems. He is presently Applications Scientist at IDEX Health & Science, with focus on use of Semrock optical filters in complex fluorescence-based optical systems.
